Blackalicious hit the Californian hip hop scene back in the year 2000 with their debut album Nia. The duo, Timothy Parker (known as MC Gift of Gab) and Xavier Mosley (DJ/Producer and known as Chief Xcel) were mutual friends most of their lives, starting when they met in 1987 during their high school years. After high school this successful duo was separated when Timothy Parker aka Tiny T graduated and moved away to Los Angeles.
They kept best efforts in order to keep in touch by phone as they were best friends as well as partners in the music scene; they finally got reunited in 1992 and picked up where they left of. They released their first vinyl single called “Swan Lake” later in that year. The name Blackalicious was a joint effort and means “Good Black Music” according to the duo. May 2004 was a busy month for Parker as he released his own solo album which led to Xavier’s solo attempt in September and an additional one in October which featured Lateef the True Speaker.
