Benzino (Born Raymond Scott) was born on October 24th, 1965 in Boston, Massachusetts. Benzino had more success was with The Source Magazine than he has as a rapper. He was the co-owner and acted as a silent partner of The Source from 1988 to 2001 after meeting the founder Dave Mays at Harvard. Benzino’s rap career started with the group, the Almighty RSO.

The groups album Forever Doomsday was a very controversial release as it openly encouraged the murdering of law enforcement. After the Boston Police began targeting RSO and consequently causing them to be dropped from their label, Benzino created a new group called Made Men which included former RSO members.

Made Men’s manager was Dave Mays; Mays often inserted stories and reviews featuring the group into The Source without the consent of editors or shareholders in hopes to boost Benzino’s sales.
