Lawrence Krisna Parker aka KRS-One was born on August 20, 1965. KRS-One is of mixed Nigerian and Jamaican descent. Many have said that KRS-One is among the greatest rappers ever to hold the mic. Lawrence adopted the name KRS-One as a short for Kris Number One which was Lawrence’s graffiti name. Later in his career, he created the acronym “Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone” for his stage name. KRS was an original member of the hip hop crew Boogie Down Productions, along with Scott Sterling aka Scott La Rock. The group formed in 1985 at a group home in the Bronx.
