Mac Dre (Born Andrew Hicks) was born on July 5th, 1979. Mac Dre is credited as one of the innovators of the Hyphy Movement. Most of his lyrics were based on “The Crest” or the north Vallejo neighborhood. He was born in Oakland, CA and moved to Vallejo, CA because his mother wanted to remove them from the streets of Oakland. During the first three album releases he robbed banks and pizza parlours. Allegedly he was a member of the “Romper Room Gang.” While in jail he recorded lyrics to songs via the inmate telephone. He was released from prison in 1996 at this time his albums were steadily releasing. A common theme in his songs is his reputation as a “mac”. Some of his albums include, Rapper Gone Bad,and Mac Dre Is The Name. As he was traveling to Kansas City a car pulled up next to the automobile with Dre inside. It is unknown if they exchanged words but the “meeting” ended in bloodshed. Dre died of a gun shot wound and was thrown from the vehicle after it crashed into a tree.Fat Tone the rapper from Kansas City was murdered in 2005 due to the heightened amount of suspicion. Then in 2006 Hicks’ tombstone was stolen from his grave in Oakland, CA.
