Mos Def or Dante Terrell Smith at birth was an American rapper and actor from Brooklyn, New York. He was born on 11th December 1973 and later met up with Talib Kweli in high school and went on to becoming a proud member of “Black Star” who released a successful debut album. Dante showed potential from an early age as he was acting and rapping from the age of 9 as he grew up during the rise of hip hop music.
He went onto starting his music career in 1994 with the rise of the group Urban Thermo Dynamics which consisted of Dante, DCQ (his younger brother) and Ces (his younger sister). The group was very short lived group which led him to going solo in 1996 with his debut release of Universal Magnetic. His acting career came from his university days when he was studying experimental theatre and appeared in a TV movie called “God Bless the Child” at a young age of 14. Since then he has appeared on television many times and was nominated for an Image Award and a Teen Choice Award. |
