Statue of Tupac Vandalized, Noose Found on Tupac Statue
In the past five days The Tupac Amaru Center For the Arts in Stone Mountain, Georgia has been vandalized twice. At 2 am on October 20th, a vandal put a noose around the statue of the slain rapper Tupac Shakur. Less than two days later more vandalism was done, including hateful writing and threats of violence to other rappers and record labels.
Within a few days a male suspect was arrested by De Kalb County Police. The De Kalb County sheriff stated that he believes more vandals were involved in the crime.
Afeni Shakur, Tupac’s mother, released the following statement, “We thank everyone for their prayers and support. Although our hearts are temporarily in pain, our spirits have already forgiven the perpetrators. Hate comes in all colors and genders therefore we will use this act of hate and ignorance to bring our community together and to pray for the healing of those who harbor such feelings. With God’s guidance, the work of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts and Peace Garden will continue to positively impact and transform our community.”
